More than 100 Organizations Call for an End to Raids

National Movement Grows as Immigration is Placed on Congressional Policy Plank

Calling the workplace raids excessive and inhumane, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), an international social justice organization and co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of Quakers worldwide, and more than 100 organizations and individuals issued a statement urging the Bush administration to work with Congress to develop fair and rational immigration policies instead.

Citing human rights violations and humanitarian concerns, the organizations call for an immediate end to community and work site raids that target immigrants.

Organized labor, legal, faith-based and civil and immigrants' rights organizations and individuals across the country are condemning the strong-arm tactics and excessive use of force employed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during recent raids at Swift meatpacking facilities in six states in mid-December.
